Whether you’re getting a brand-new sloped or flat roof for your home, ideally, you would want to schedule the project when the weather forecast is clear and sunny. Most roof repair jobs can be completed in a day or less. However, a full roof replacement, on average, can take up to three days. Depending on the season, finding three sunny days in a row can be challenging.

Luckily, most modern roofing systems can be installed even when it’s raining. Of course, doing so is not without risk. Here are some of the precautions our experienced roofers at Gulf Coast Roofing take when it rains in the middle of a roof installation.
Pause Construction
Certain phases of the construction must be delayed in the event of rain. Some types of roofing systems, like a shingle roof, require dry weather for the shingle adhesives to dry and set properly. Interior components like the OSB boards, underlayment and the rest of the roof deck are particularly prone to water damage. Most contractors cover up the unfinished roof with a tarp and wait for the weather to cooperate before continuing the construction.
Warranty Considerations
Some roofing warranties can be voided if the construction continues during rainfall. It’s important to check these terms thoroughly and consider the value of your warranty coverage before making any decisions. While it is possible to finish re-roofing a house even when it’s raining, it can be incredibly risky to do so.
Patience Is a Virtue
It’s still best to schedule your roof work when the forecast calls for sunny weather through and through. A metal roof, in particular, would greatly benefit when finished under dry conditions.
